Sandymount Post

Amerigo Vespucci escorted into Dublin Port

The Amerigo Vespucci, the largest of the tall ships in this year’s race sailed into Dublin Port yesterday on its first ever visit to the city. The toll bridge lifted at 1pm and saluted the 102.38m colossus of the sea smooth passage to its berth at Sir John Rogerson’s Quay.

Poolbeg Yacht Club made the Sandymount Post very welcome and provided life jacket, coffee and banter while we watched Dublin Port tug boats and pilots gently guide the powerful vessel past the landmark red Poolbeg lighthouse, up the Liffey and into the city.
